# Your first trade

> Choose an option or package, request a quote, and review the trade before signing.

Every trade on Joyride starts with a request for quote (RFQ). You choose the option or package and its size. Market makers return prices, and you decide whether to trade.

## Create your account

Open [Joyride](https://joyride.exchange/trade) and complete sign-in and any access requirements shown in the app. Your account is tied to a Solana wallet. Use that same wallet when connecting through the CLI or API.

Trades use the collateral in your RFQ account. Check the account and deposit options in the app before requesting a trade you intend to accept.

## Choose a trade

**Copilot** can explain an option or turn your market view into a proposed trade. You still request the quote and confirm the trade. See [Trading with Copilot](/exchange/copilot.md).

**Exchange** lets you select one call or put from the options chain. Check the underlying, strike, expiry, and quantity in the order ticket.

**RFQ Desk** lets you build a package of up to 13 legs on one underlying and expiry. A spread or other package receives one total price and fills in full in one transaction.

## Request and review a quote

Request a price for the selected trade. A request alone does not execute a trade. If a maker quotes, review the side, size, package premium, maximum fee, collateral requirement, and quote expiry before accepting.

The options chain's model prices help you compare contracts. The maker's quote determines the executable price. A quote can expire before you accept it; request a fresh price if that happens.

A package price may be paid or received, depending on its legs and the side you take. Receiving premium still leaves you responsible for any short-option obligations.

## Confirm and check the result

Confirm the trade in the app and complete the wallet signature. A signature or accepted request alone does not prove execution. Check the trade's result and your positions; an on-chain fill becomes final when its transaction is finalized.

The [agent quickstart](/agents/quickstart.md) covers the same flow through the CLI, including how to resolve an unknown result before trying again.

## Manage the position through expiry

Portfolio shows positions and trade history. An exit requires a new executable quote. Copilot does not submit closes or reductions.

Options expire daily at 08:00 UTC and settle automatically in USDC. Check the displayed expiry and timezone before trading. [Contract specifications](/exchange/contracts.md), [fees](/exchange/fees.md), and [settlement](/market-makers/settlement.md) explain the terms.

Buying an option risks its premium and fees. Writing options requires collateral and can produce larger losses; an unhedged short call has unbounded loss.
